Nick Williams’ three-run double in the fourth inning provided all the scoring for the Hickory Crawdads in a 3-2 win over the Lexington Legends Wednesday afternoon.
The Legends had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on singles by Kenny Diekroeger, Yowill Espinal and Mark Donato.
In the bottom of the fourth, two walks and a hit batsman loaded the bases with two outs, and Williams followed with a line drive to right center field, clearing the bases and giving the Crawdads the lead for good.
The Legends cut the lead to one in the eighth. Terrance Gore led off with a bunt single, and when third baseman Joey Gallo fielded the bunt and threw past first base, Gore continued to third. He scored on Mark Threlkeld’s sacrifice fly.
Hickory starter Connor Sadzeck (7-2) worked five innings and got the win. Legends’ starter Daniel Stumpf (5-6), who pitched the first four innings, took the loss.
Hickory won two of three games in the series.
The Legends continue their road trip with a four-game series at Hagerstown. Game time Thursday night is 7:05 p.m.
