The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football Patriots are continuing a very special season as they took down the #11 ranked Georgetown College Tigers on Saturday by a final score of 38-35, moving UC to 6-0 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in Mid-South Conference (MSC)East Division play. The play of two Patriots stood out on Saturday as they were honored on Monday.
UC freshman quarterback Adam Craig (Jackson, TN) and senior linebacker Weston Hazelhurst (Clinton, TN) were named offensive and defensive MSC Players of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Craig was involved in four touchdowns in three different ways in the Patriots’ 38-35 win over No. 11-ranked Georgetown to earn Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Adam threw for one touchdown, rushed for two scores and caught a touchdown pass to help the #2 ranked Patriots to win the top-25 battle. Craig rushed for a career-high 145 yards and finished the game 11-of-20 passing for 95 yards. He ranks fifth in the Mid-South this season averaging 187.7 total yards of offense per game. His 75.8 rushing yards per game is sixth best in the conference while is 111.8 passing yards per game is seventh in the MSC. Craig ranks second in the conference with 11 touchdowns this season.
Hazelhurst finished with 11 tackles and two sacks in the Patriots’ win to earn Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Weston collected three solo tackles and eight assisted tackles to help Cumberlands to its first win over the Tigers since 2008. Hazelhurst added a pair of tackles for a loss and a pass breakup in the win. He currently ranks eighth in the Mid-South averaging 7.7 tackles per contest. Hazelhurst is tied for 10th in the conference with three sacks this season and tied for 13th with eight tackles for a loss.
