University of Louisville junior safety Calvin Pryor has been named a semifinalist for the prestigious Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation's outstanding defensive back. The 15 semifinalists were announced today by the Jim Thorpe Association.
Pryor is a third-year junior from Port St. Joe, Fla., and Port St. Joe High School. He is second on the Cardinals in tackles this season with 47 and leads the team with three interceptions. He registered 11 tackles and an interception in Louisville’s lone loss of the season versus UCF on Oct. 18 and was credited with a career-high 14 tackles in a win over Rutgers on Oct. 10.
Thorpe Award finalists will be announced Nov. 25. Ohio State has two previous Thorpe Award winners: Antoine Winfield (1998) and Malcolm Jenkins (2008).
